The university uses individuals in non-student momentary wage positions to provide functional and staffing assistance to department managers who may need to employ temporary staff members. Temporary staff members are "at-will" employees, and appropriately, they or the university might end the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.
If a non-student wage account is the most suitable action, realistic expectations are set related to turn-around time, proposed start date, hourly wage rate, length of assignment, and any other crucial considerations. Deal with your HR agent to choose on the most appropriate staffing action to facilitate your hiring goal. Your HR representative will ensure that the appropriate documents is completed and authorized for your momentary hire.

Duration of Temporary Assignments
Non-student short-lived wage positions need to be designated for a brief duration. Non-student short-lived wage tasks should not go beyond twelve months, with an outright maximum of eighteen months (approximately forty-two months is allowable for momentary non-student research wage hires). If it becomes required to keep non-research, non-student temporary wage staff member for more than eighteen months (or more than forty-two months for short-term non-student research study wage hires), the department must send a Demand to Job form to EEO prior to the end of task.
GW Temps
GW Temps is GW's internal temporary staffing service created to provide short-term staff for departments throughout the university. GW Temps can identify and fill a range of temporary roles including but not limited to administrative, financial, and technical. Since January 1, 2019, departments are no longer charged an administrative cost for employing short-term workers through GW Temps.
GW Temps will deal with you and your HR representative to discover an appropriate candidate for the temporary task and to guarantee that the needed documentation is completed in order to hire your selected prospect.
For more details, please see the GW Temps page.
GW Temps hired for short-term assignments are GW non-benefits qualified workers except under relevant law(s).
GW Temps undergo a basic background screening. Non-standard checks, such as motor vehicle checks, are conducted based upon the requirements of the task.
Conversion of GW Temps from Temporary to Regular Status
GW Temps are considered internal staff members, and are qualified to apply to GW "internal-only" posts. In specific scenarios, active temporary workers worked with through GW Temps are eligible to be hired as regular workers ("conversion") without needing a competitive recruitment process. This conversion process just uses if the individual will stay in the exact same position that he/she was employed into as a GW Temp.
